Club History

1514 CLUB CONSTITUTION CAN BE VIEWED HERE

THE BEGINNING

It was in the year of 1960 that the 1514 Club first came into being, running on only an informal basis for almost two decades under the stewardship of J.T. Blakie before in 1977 the first official committee was elected and a formal constitution laid down.

The honour of leading the line of dedicated and enthusiastic PRESIDENTS that has followed fell upon ex-swimming internationalist Ronnie Murphy, little could anyone have dreamt that only a quarter of a century later the club would be held in such high regard both locally and abroad, or making as it does, such a significant contribution to both Common Riding and town alike.

THE PURPOSE

Laid out from the start was the Clubs purpose for being, which simply stated is -

"protect and support the interests of Hawick Common-Riding and its ancient rights."

a dearly held value which remains to this day the 'beating heart' of the Club.

TRADITION

Although the youngest of the Common Riding Clubs, the 1514 Club has a proud history of supporting both local charities and organisations alike and has made more than twenty separate donations exceeding £12,000 in value over the past few years. recent recipients of Club assistance have included: Hawick Health Centre, The Saxhorn Band, Hawick Ambulance Service, Macmillan Nurses, Hawick Archaeological Society, Hawick Albion RFC and Hawick High School to name but a few.
